Spent some hours since Thu on my mental TODO list of small needed things for the site. That always means a lot of searching / reading online material and some experimentation to get things working fine.

For some genuinely weird reason these small webmaster tasks are fun to me. Probably because it's for my own site and I don't have to do these things frequently.

Thu: .htaccess and robots.txt files were still missing for the subdomains (multiverso and arca).

.htaccess files are for web server configuration, I was particularly interested in access error pages like 404, etc. and rewriting paths to favor urls without "www.".

robots.txt are the files that prevent nice search engines from indexing parts of the site that are not meant to be accessed. But since the whole world can see them, they are not meant to keep anything private, much to the contrary. Today I also improved the portal's robots.txt file.

Fri: I was reading about Creative Commons, to see how things have been going. The .br licenses are still on version 2.5 (found no recent mention of further work on their mailing list archives), while the main ones are on 3.0 and already working on 3.01. I prefer the 3.0 over the 2.5 one, since the newer allows "same or similar" licenses for derivative works, so I'm considering using the "Unported" license, instead of the brazilian one.

Maybe I should have a TODO page here on the site. What would it include right now?

• Proofread the en translation of the first short story I'll post
• Post it!
• Add other missing pages to this portal, like: about, licenses, contact, etc.; also add the related menus
• CSS:
  • Add the default CSS files for multiverso and arca texts, for screen and print medias (what about aural? ... still need to play with this)
  • Create the CSS for the short story
  • See what else to do with a lousy CSS helper script I'm writing
• Choose, update, translate, etc. and post other simple stories I have here (from my "I'm just practicing" phase)
• Think about my actual neverending mental TODO list and relax :)

Thankfully this time I'm not trying to know and prepare everything before starting the site, not even unconsciously :).

PS about the song below: there are many versions around, including remixes and fan renditions (my favorite comes from Sweden, straight to the point rocker, keeping the soul of the song intact).
